ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A shoplifting suspect is dead after a shooting involving a deputy Sunday morning, law enforcement says.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported shoplifting at the Walmart at 10900 E. Briarwood Avenue at 7:12 a.m.

Deputies say the report indicated the suspect was armed with a machete.

When deputies contacted the subject, they say he advanced toward them with both a machete and a knife.

“A deputy deployed a Taser, which was ineffective. As the subject continued to advance, another deputy discharged their firearm, striking the subject,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a social media post.

Deputies said they immediately began life-saving efforts, but medical personnel arrived and pronounced the suspect dead.
