CLEVELAND, Ohio - A 47-year-old motorcyclist from Lorain died Saturday night after failing to stop at a red light and colliding with a car at an intersection in Amherst Township, published reports say.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to Ohio 58 near the ramps to the Ohio Turnpike about 10:45 p.m., according to officials.

Shawn Edgell was driving a Honda CBR600 motorcycle northbound on Ohio 58 at a “high rate of speed” when he ran the red light at the intersection, according to WKYC, a news partner of cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.

As Edgell entered the intersection, his motorcycle struck a Mini Cooper that was turning from the turnpike’s exit ramp onto southbound Ohio 58.

Edgell was pronounced dead at the scene, highway patrol officials confirmed to WKYC.
