SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Fred Gilmore, an iconic figure in the history of Booker High School (BHS), and the City of Sarasota, has passed away.

Gilmore graduated from BHS in 1984, and later returned to his alma mater where he was coach in football, baseball and weightlifting for 32 years. He also had a stint as the school’s athletic director.

He mostly known for what he did as the school’s head football coach for ten years from 2002-2012. He coached the Tornadoes to the state championship game during the 2005 season where they fell short against St. Augustine.
