Backup quarterback Mac Jones threw for three touchdown passes to lead the San Francisco 49ers to a 26-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
The loss dropped the Saints to 0-2 while the 49ers improved to 2-0.
The 49ers started Mac Jones at quarterback in place of the injured Brock Purdy and Jones was 26 of 39 for 279 yards with touchdown passes of 11, seven and 42 yards. The 49ers also had two field goals.
Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler played one of his best games, throwing three touchdown passes (Juwan Johnson, Rashid Shaheed and Devaughn Vele) for the first time in his brief career.
