One of James Franklin’s longtime right-hand men has been fired from his first stint as a college head coach.
Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry on Sunday after an 0-3 start to his fourth season as the Hokies’ head coach. Offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will take over as the interim head coach, the school announced.
Pry’s buyout was more than $6 million, according to ESPN .

Much of Pry’s tenure in Blacksburg was disastrous, compiling a 16-24 record with no more than seven wins in a season. Even his best season in 2023 (7-6) featured a head-scratching loss at the hands of Sun Belt foe Marshall.
