CLEVELAND -- The towering fly ball off the bat of Guardians catcher Bo Naylor on Sunday kept on carrying to right field. Chicago’s Mike Tauchman gave a long chase that led into a leap at the outfield wall.
The fly ball? Out of Tauchman’s reach. The Guardians postseason hopes? Still very much alive.
Naylor’s solo homer in the seventh inning sent the Guardians to a 3-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday at Progressive Field, as Cleveland completed the three-game sweep. The Guardians improved to 78-71, marking their first time being seven or more games over .500 since May 24 (29-22).
More importantly, by taking care of business this weekend, the Guardians kept pace in a competitive American League Wild Card picture. Cleveland has gone 10-4 to start September, but entered Sunday still 3 1/2
