CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)-- The sun came out as first responders teamed up with the community for a run/ walk in remembrance of 9/11/01.
The event was in honor of those who passed on 9/11 24 years ago, and the proceeds raised money for programs to help first responders mental health.
For the first year, participants had the option to run/walk a 5k that led from the west side station to the east side station of the Caughdenoy Fire Department.
"When they played the national anthem, it seemed like people took an extra breath because of everything this week," said Michelle Bleacha, one of the runners.
1st assistant chief Ryan Eiffe, of Caughdenoy fire department, acknowledged a similar feeling.
"The past couple weeks have not been good," said Eiffe, "But I'm happy to be out here and
