Local students earn National Merit Scholarship semifinalist status: Short Takes on Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville

Lorain County, Ohio

High schools from around the area celebrated the announcement of the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists last week.

Locally, each high school in the Sun Sentinel’s coverage area is represented.

Avon High School boasts two seniors - Alexandria Balthaser and Nha Tien Le.

At Avon Lake High School, senior Andrew Cline, is a semifinalist.

North Ridgeville High School also has one semifinalist, senior Ethan Stanulet.

In addition to his academic achievements, Stanulet participates in band, tennis, Academic Challenge, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Key Club at North Ridgeville High School. Looking ahead, he hopes to attend The Ohio State University to pursue a major in finance.
