NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico's Pueblo governors took flight over Chaco Canyon to see firsthand the damaging effects of the oil and gas industry. Despite recently securing protections that prohibit new mineral, oil, and gas developments, Pueblo governors say the Trump Administration's Project 2025 would roll back that protection plan.

Officials say a lot of damage has already been done and that Indigenous people need to band together to protect the sacred land. "Very unfortunate sight to see. The land [is] pretty much being destroyed, nothing but roads, dead lands. Before we got to that point, it just seemed more alive; the greenery, I guess you could say, and once you got to that point, it was just heartbreaking," said Governor Jenelle Roybal from the Pueblo of Pojoaque.
