One of Australia's largest private landholders has expanded his outback cattle empire, buying Murranji Station in the Northern Territory for $44 million plus the value of about 20,000 head of cattle.

Viv Oldfield bought the 447,500 hectare station, south of Daly Waters, from the Pickersgill family's Bunderra Cattle Company.

His portfolio of stations now expands beyond 9.5 million hectares, including a number of properties he bought in partnership with the Costello family such as Mount Doreen (NT) , Clifton Hills (SA) and Ruby Plains (WA).

Documents from the NT Land Titles Office show the value of Murranji — just the land, not the cattle — has quadrupled since 2020.
