WILMINGTON (WPVI) - - Sunday afternoon started out as a day of celebration, as thousands of people turned out for the Wilmington Hispanic Parade. However, after the fun-filled afternoon, things took a turn along the parade route on West 4th Street.

Video captured showed a huge police response to disperse crowds near DuPont and West 4th Streets.

Action News reached out to Wilmington Police but police have yet to comment on the situation.

Dozens of police vehicles descended as tensions escalated after the Wilmington Hispanic Parade. The Action Cam captured bottles being thrown at officers, prompting police to call for backup and disperse the crowd with gas.

Witnesses told Action News the parade itself was peaceful, with the disturbance breaking out only after the event had ended.
