With a big final attempt, Trey Knight qualified for the finals of the hammer throw at the world track and field championships in Tokyo on Monday morning.

The 23-year-old from Ridgefield posted the 10th-best mark in qualifying out of 36 contestants. The top 12 advanced to the finals.

The finals take place Wednesday at 5 a.m. Pacific and can be watched live on the Peacock streaming service.

Knight’s best throw of 76.40 meters (250 feet, 6 inches) came on the last of his three attempts. His second-best mark of 73.13 meters would have placed 24th.

Knight entered Monday ranked 21st in the world. He qualified for Tokyo by finishing second at the U.S. championships in Eugene in May with a personal best of 78.76 meters (258-5).

Ethan Katzberg of Canada posted the top qualifying mark of 81.85
