Retired West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern says he is “stoked” for Tom Barrass as his 2018 premiership teammate makes a fresh September surge with Hawthorn.

The pair were inseparable as key pillars of the West Coast defence for a decade and remain close mates and McGovern says he is watching on with proud envy as Barrass’ Hawks face arch-enemy Geelong in Friday night’s preliminary final at the MCG.

“He’s going well, the big fella, I’m stoked for him,” McGovern said.

“He’s playing finals again and it’s just good seeing him enjoying his footy and happy over there.

“I’m a bit jealous at the same time. But I’m glad he’s doing well over at the Hawks and has got an opportunity to hopefully get to the big dance.”
