GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 28-year-old man is dead after a Jet Ski crash Sunday night in Grand Haven Township, deputies say.

It happened around 8:50 p.m. on the 14,000 block of Ammeraal Avenue near Mercury Drive.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the man was operating a Jet Ski on the Grand River when he crashed into a navigational buoy. The crash threw the man and his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, into the water. They were not wearing life jackets, deputies said.

The woman managed to climb back on the Jet Ski, and "Good Samaritans" on a nearby boat helped her, according to deputies. They said the man was last seen in the water nearby, but he went under and didn't resurface.
