In recent years, we’ve seen plenty of Amtrak’s routes disappear or be reintroduced. For instance, on August 18, Amtrak launched the so-called Mardi Gras Service . This replaced a route once known as the Gulf Coast Limited, which had to cease operations following the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Also, back in August, Congressman Brendan Boyle of Pennsylvania’s 2nd District issued a warning over planned cuts that may affect Amtrak’s Keystone service . Yet, while these routes are still operational, another has recently been cut: the Amtrak I-41 Thruway bus service, which has been in operation for over 15 years. Here is why.
