State pensioners could see the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) age threshold cut to as low as 60 - if the benefits department bows to pressure.

Calls have been made for the DWP and Labour Party government to cut the age. A petition has been set up on the Parliamentary website urging: "Give State Pension to all at 60 and increase it to equal 48hrs of Living Wage".

Its creator Denver Johnson says: "We want the Government to make the State Pension available from the age of 60 and increase this to equal 48hrs a week at the National Living Wage.
