A FIGURE SKATER has tragically died after being hit by a lorry in a horror road crash.

Julia Marie Gaiser was hit by a vehicle while out cycling on a bike path in Austria.

Reports claim that the champion figure skater was hit by the lorry at a busy junction.

It is added that attempts were made to resuscitate Gaiser at the site of the crash.

However, the 23-year-old died at the scene.

Salzburg authorities opened an investigation after the incident last Thursday.

The cops have said that the driver tested negative for alcohol at the scene.

Mayor Andreas Jungman paid tribute to the skater and sent his condolences to her family.

He said: "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Gaiser family.

"This is a great loss, especially for the world of sport."
