Former Celtics guard wins EuroBasket MVP

In Sunday’s EuroBasket championship, undefeated favorites Germany edged Alperen Sengun and Turkey 88-83. Former Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder directed the offense for Germany, finishing with 16 points in 34 minutes and a game-high 12 assists.

Schroder provided both scoring and playmaking throughout the tournament, averaging 20.3 points in nine games — 10th among all players — and leading the field with 7.2 assists per game.

That performance earned him EuroBasket MVP honors, narrowly edging out German teammate and Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner. Schroder's EuroBasket MVP adds to a long list of international accolades for Germany, including a FIBA World Cup MVP in 2023 and a spot on the FIBA Olympics All-Star Fiv
