UPDATE: McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley says Captain Brantley Worley is "continuing to improve" after being shot on Saturday.
"He is scheduled to undergo surgery today on his facial area, and we are praying for a successful procedure and continued healing," says Chief Earley.
According to a Facebook post from the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Adairsville, Captain Worley suffered a broken neck and a brain bleed. EMS personnel airlifted him to Erlanger in Chattanooga.
The suspected gunman was arrested after a nearly 20-hour manhunt.
