A recent report by the global technology company Schneider Electric forecasts potential problems for America's electric grid if more is not done to meet surging power demand.

The company's grid capacity analysis found that electricity demand is projected to grow by 16 percent in the coming four years, the fastest growth in power demand since World War II.

The report found that about half of the country's regionally managed grid systems could see electricity shortages during times of peak power demand, bringing the risk of blackouts and higher energy prices.
