Prince Harry is considering a homecoming with the whole family.
In an interview with The Guardian, the Duke of Sussex, 41, said he's "closer" to bringing 6-year-old Prince Archie and 4-year-old Princess Lilibet back to the United Kingdom despite strained family relationships and his stripped royal security status. The comment comes just days after Harry’s surprise reunion with his father, King Charles III.
In early 2024, Harry lost a legal battle with the British government over his security, leading him to tell the BBC in May: "I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point." Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan, moved to California in 2020 and have been highly critical of the royal family in interviews, TV documentaries and Harry's autobiography, "Spare."
Still, Harry told The Guardian he doesn't regret telling his story. "My conscience is clear," he said.
Prince Harry says he's 'closer' to bringing kids back to the U.K.
While on a trip to the U.K. on Sept. 10, Harry reunited with his father for the first time in over a year and a half. The prince offered brief remarks to a reporter who asked about his father and the meeting: "Yes, he's great. Thank you."
He last saw his father in February 2024, shortly after it was announced that Charles, 76, was undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. Last May, Harry told the BBC his father wasn't speaking to him because of his security battles but that "it would be nice to reconcile."
In February 2024, a London judge ruled that Harry was not improperly stripped of his publicly funded security detail because he gave up his status as a working member of the royal family when he moved to the United States. Harry is also currently suing the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, claiming that he and his family were endangered while in the U.K. because of online hostility and hounding by the news media.
Now, Harry is telling The Guardian he's weighing bringing his children back for a visit – with or without that security.
“Yes I would," Harry said, when asked whether he'd return with the family. "This week has definitely brought that closer.
"I have always loved the U.K. and I always will love the U.K. It's been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about. I have been able to spend some time with people that I have known for so long. It is hard to do it from far away," he said.
