A Delta Air Lines plane heading from Miami International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing after striking a flock of birds over the weekend.

In a statement sent to USA TODAY via email, Delta said the birds struck one of the aircraft’s two engines shortly after departing the airport on Saturday, Sept. 13, around 11:27 a.m. local time. The plane returned to the Miami airport shortly after takeoff.
