Betty Coleen Ivey, or Coleen as she was commonly known, was born May 7, 1929, in Ogden, Utah. She passed away on September 10, 2025 at her home in Brigham City, Utah surrounded by her daughters.

She was the only child of Harold E. Ingebretsen and Mamie (Grier) Ingebretsen. Coleen grew up in McCall, Idaho. Her father was a barber and for a while they lived in an apartment above the barber shop. Later, her father built a two-bedroom home in McCall. Coleen noted that McCall, Idaho was a good place to grow up. Winters were spent in school, Girl Scout activities, music and dance lessons, sledding and ice skating.
