A Brookhaven police officer's quick actions saved the life of a young child, and the video from his body camera, released this week, captured the drama.

Officer W. North didn't wait for dispatch to save a choking child. He overheard a woman's 911 call and raced to the home in less than a minute.

Once he arrived, his body camera video shows him using a small suction device used for choking emergencies. When it is pressed against the mouth and nose, it creates a suction that helps remove an object from an airway.

It's designed for choking emergencies. Brookhaven Police say it was the quick use of that device that made the difference.

It took about two minutes for North to clear the child's airway and restore his breathing.
