BELOIT, Wis. (WFRV) - A police officer in Wisconsin was recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for her heroism after she saved a man who drove into a river.

Beloit Police Officer Hannah Carlson responded to a report on a Sunday around midnight that said an SUV had driven into the Rock River, and the vehicle was about 40 yards from the shore.

Officers noticed that the SUV was beginning to sink, with the occupant trying to break a window to escape, and Officer Carlson swiftly stepped into action.

According to the FBI's bulletin, Officer Carlson quickly removed her body armor and duty belt, jumping into the river to approach the SUV. The man broke open his window as she was approaching, and she grasped him to push him in front of her swimming towards the shore.
