ST. LOUIS - Following a violent weekend in St. Louis, resulting in two deaths and four injuries, President Donald Trump is maintaining his stance that the city needs the National Guard to fight crime.

“We got to save St. Louis,” Trump said at the Oval Office on Monday. “We have got to save these citizens.”

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), however, says they have not heard from the White House about National Guard deployment.

“We haven’t had those conversations,” said Mitch McCoy, SLMPD spokesperson. “There have been very brief conversations with the governor’s office, but that is limited to, ‘Hey, have you heard anything?’”
