Judging by their social media presence, Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney seemed to have little time for anyone but themselves.

Their ailments. Their drama. Their finances. Their own sour self-reflection.

The big tent at the couple’s Burlington home really had room for just two people: Becky and Brandy. Brandy and Becky.

Seemingly, not two special needs Indigenous brothers whom the couple wanted to adopt. They would allegedly become collateral damage of a raging toxicity nearly impossible to fathom.

In March 2024, Hamber, 45, of Burlington, and Cooney, her 43-year-old bride, of Hamilton, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and failure to provide the necessities of life. Officials familiar with the allegations have called them a “horror show.”
