ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — The assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk has sparked strong reactions across the country. With the suspect now in custody here in Utah, republicans and democrats say it's a moment to reflect on division and the need for unity.

In Washington County, where the suspect was arrested, Utahns are asking big questions: What does this tragedy mean for our politics, and can this state be a model for civil discourse moving forward?

For republicans, the news brought both confusion and concern.

Jordan Hess of the Executive Committee of the Utah Republican Party told ABC4.com, "I think like a lot of people, I was just confused. How does that happen here in our community?"
