MAYODAN, N.C. — McMichael High School went into lockdown Monday morning after a threatening note was discovered in the girls’ bathroom , according to school officials.

The note allegedly threatened to “shoot up the school if students were not released by 12:30 p.m.” Students were sheltered in place for about four hours while deputies searched classrooms and investigated.

Senior Daisy Pinzon described a tense day in a locked classroom.

“We were all like, ‘What if something happens? What if they open our door? What if they shoot through the window?’” she said.

The shelter-in-place began around 9:15 a.m. Parents received calls from the school and texts from their children informing them of the situation. Many drove to the school and waited across the street.
