The Toronto Blue Jays have released top prospect Orelvis Martinez, according to his transaction log on MLB.com.

Martinez was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week as the team needed to clear a 40-man roster spot. Now, after clearing waivers, he's been released to free agency in a disappointing turn of events for the 23-year-old prospect.

The Blue Jays originally signed Martinez in July 2018 with a signing bonus of $3.5 million, the second-highest signing bonus given to an international free agent in Blue Jays history behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($3.9 million). He rose through the prospect ranks, and was the team's No. 2 overall prospect in 2024. He was the team's No. 12 prospect this season, per MLB Pipeline
