Crossing guards will soon return to posts around New London schools after the city council approved a plan to fund the positions, reversing budget cuts made by the Board of Education earlier this year.
The Board of Education eliminated half a dozen crossing guard positions in May, citing budget constraints after the city council approved a flat-funded $47.4 million school budget for the 2025-26 academic year.

The cuts saved just under $60,000 and included six crossing guard positions and two school nurses serving private schools.
