A man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting along Arrow Highway in Irwindale that left a young woman dead earlier this month, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident occurred around 1:34 a.m. on Sept. 9, when investigators say Basilio Perez Valencia fired into a vehicle traveling beside him. The gunfire struck the front-seat passenger, identified as Aryanna Avila of Arcadia, who was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Detectives identified Perez Valencia as the suspected shooter the following day and issued a “be on the lookout” flyer. Shortly afterward, officers from the West Covina and Irwindale police departments arrested him during a traffic stop.
