Brownsville city leaders signed a letter of intent with United Soccer League to launch a pro-soccer team, the city announced on Monday.

The city wants to get a feasibility study done first to see if any upgrades are needed at the Brownsville Sports Park, which would serve as the team’s official site if the deal is finalized.

The last professional league was the RGV Toros, which ended in 2023 after eight years in the Rio Grande Valley.

Brownsville has already created a committee made up of about 40 community members to help the city understand what it would take to bring down a professional soccer team for both men and women.
