President Donald Trump said he was "very proud of the FBI" as he threw his support behind the federal law enforcement agency's embattled leader Kash Patel a day after the apprehension of Charlie Kirk's accused killer.

"Kash—and everyone else—they have done a great job," Trump told Fox News in brief comments.

Authorities identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah as the shooter. Formal charges are expected in coming days .

Kirk died after he was struck by a single gunshot while speaking in front of some 3,000 people as part of his "American Comeback Tour" at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, about 40 miles south
