A number of schools across the region will be closed on Wednesday due to stop work action.

The Department of Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) informed parents on Tuesday afternoon that a number of schools in the south and north of the state would be closed on Wednesday, September 17.

DECYP said the need to close certain schools was due to stop work action for Education Facility Attendants, including cleaners and groundskeepers, which had resulted in staff shortages.

"It is important that schools are able to meet their duty of care to students and staff," the department said.
