Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Papua New Guinea as it marked its 50th anniversary of independence, emphasising nearly five decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Xi praised PNG's "notable achievements" in its economic and social development since 1975.
Diplomatic relations between China and PNG were established in 1976 and have deepened under Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative.
Xi said China and PNG "have supported each other and moved forward together," adding the relationship has contributed to the wellbeing of their peoples and regional stability.
