By a strange coincidence, Charlie Kirk spoke on the University of Hawaii campus almost exactly seven years ago on Sept. 21, 2018. He spoke in defense of free speech on college campuses and politely answered audience questions.
The following week, Sept. 27, the Star-Advertiser printed a column by an associate professor in the UH Department of Political Science proclaiming why Kirk should not have been allowed on campus, and that his unapproved speech should be banned (“Why I called shenanigans on Turning Point USA at UH event,” Island Voices, 2018) .
