NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Communities across America are celebrating the spirit of the U.S. Constitution. A display of the U.S Constitution was shown at the Nacogdoches Old University Building as the Nacogdoches chapter Daughters of the American Revolution kicked off Constitution Week.

In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution lobbied congress to create National Constitution Week. Congress made it an official observance in 1956.

Shortly after Monday morning’s dedication, eight students from the Christ Episcopal Elementary School went up to the second floor of the building to ring the bell 238 times. A bell for each year since the founding document was signed in 1787.

“It was actually kind of nice. I almost got levitated into the air, but it was nice,” one student said.
