Robert Redford , longtime actor and Hollywood legend, died at age 89 on September 16, 2025 The New York Times reported. Redford leaves behind two children, Shauna and Amy, whom he shared with his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen. The two were married from 1958 to 1985 and also shared two sons — Scott, who died when he was just 2 months old, and James, who died in 2020 . Redford then married Sibylle Szaggars in 2009. They were still together at the time of his death.

Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK released a statement obtained by the NYT confirming the news, saying Redford died in his sleep. The statement did not confirm the cause of death.
