NEW YORK (PIX11) -- As summer comes to an official end and autumn falls over New York City, residents will get to soak in one last 7 p.m. sunset this week.

The sun will set at 7:01 p.m. for the final time on Wednesday, signaling the start of shorter days in New York City. After that, the sun is expected to set at 6:59 p.m. on Thursday.

The earlier sunsets come just days ahead of the start of fall on Monday. Autumn is expected to bring cooler and drier weather than usual this year, according to the Farmer's Almanac.

Forecasters predict that October may bring scattered showers, brief warm spells, and generally chilly weather amid the fall foliage changes.
