Costco has announced a recall of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene sparkling wine due to concerns that the glass bottles may shatter unexpectedly. The recall affects unopened bottles purchased between April 25 and August 26 of this year.

In a letter sent to customers, Costco warned that the bottles can break “even when not handled or in use.” The company advised customers to refrain from opening any affected bottles. Instead, they should wrap the unopened bottles in paper towels, place them in a plastic bag, and dispose of them in the trash to minimize the risk of injury from shattered glass.

Costco has expressed its apologies for the inconvenience and is offering full refunds to customers who return a copy of the recall letter to any store location. The affected bottles were sold in several states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The Prosecco is produced by Ethica Wines, an Italian wine importing company based in Miami, Florida. Ethica Wines imports the product to Canada through trade partners rather than directly.

Additionally, inquiries have been made to determine if the product was sold at Costco locations in Ontario or at separate Costco Liquor stores in Alberta, where alcohol is available for purchase.
