WASHINGTON — Former officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plan to tell the powerful Senate health committee that political forces have overtaken scientific evidence at the agency, threatening Americans’ health, according to written remarks obtained by STAT.
The agency’s former director, Susan Monarez, was ousted by health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. last month because she would not go along with his vaccine agenda, and she plans to detail the events that led to her departure.
Debra Houry, who served as acting CDC director before Monarez was confirmed and then as chief medical officer, will testify about why she resigned after a decade at the agency, serving through four administrations.
