There is the potential for "drier and warmer" during the final week of September, according to the latest Met Office release.

The UK weather agency has there could be a "shift on the horizon", with an end to the "relentless" low-pressure systems bringing cold and wet weather to the country.

Before then though, persistent rain has been forecast to hit the UK throughout the week. According to the Met Office forecast, Wednesday, September 17, is expected to start with a band of heavy rain sweeping across the UK.

The Met Office has warned that the heaviest rainfall is expected across central areas, with Wales prone to intense downpours. Some locations could see up to 50mm of rain in just six hours, especially over higher ground.
