MINNEAPOLIS — A homeless encampment set up on private property in south Minneapolis is being cleared out following an eruption of gunfire late Monday that left eight people wounded, and pushed the city's mayor to the brink.
Jacob Frey vowed from the shooting scene at the intersection of East Lake Street and 28th Avenue South on Monday evening that the encampment, supported by property owner Hamoudi Sabri, would be torn down as soon as Minneapolis police investigators had gathered evidence. Frey was true to his word, as city crews and police officers arrived Tuesday morning to dismantle the encampment.
"We will be closing this landlord's private property encampment today, now that MPD has finished investigating the scene," Frey said in a released statement. "If the landlord wants to sue
