A 21-year-old man died after police say he lost control of the BMW he was driving on I-75 in Troy, striking a tree late Monday night, Sept. 15.

Troy police said in a statement that the BMW was speeding when the driver left the roadway to the right on southbound I-75, south of Maple Road, at about 11:20 p.m.

The vehicle entered a ditch and hit a tree behind the parking lot of 600 Stephenson Highway.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Officers initiated CPR on him before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A 19-year-old man who was a passenger also sustained injuries. He had surgery at a hospital and is expected to recover.
