CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the wake of the deadly stabbing on Charlotte's light rail , North Carolina state lawmakers are working on legislation to prevent future incidents. However, Democrats and Republicans don't exactly see eye to eye on how to get there.

Iryna Zarutska , 23, was stabbed to death on the LYNX Blue Line by a stranger who attacked her without provocation. Decarlos Brown now faces first-degree murder charges in the Aug. 22 killing.

Last week, Republicans in Raleigh announced they're working on a bill package focused on more oversight for the court system, which could potentially include restarting the death penalty and ending the cashless bail option.
