All Creatures Great and Small star Rachel Shenton has opened up on the "big responsibility" of playing her character.

Based on James Herriot's beloved collection of short stories, the popular Channel 5 drama centres around a trio of vets working in the Yorkshire Dales in the late 1930s.

The series sees veterinary surgeon Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) hire James (Nicholas Ralph) to join his practice at Skeldale House. They are also joined by Siegfried's younger brother, Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), and their housekeeper, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley).

Rachel plays Helen Alderson, a farmer's daughter who falls in love with James, with the pair eventually marrying and welcoming two children.
