FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. — A southern Indiana fire department is recognizing its own for helping a mother give birth in her Floyds Knob home last month.

On Aug. 28, members of the Highlander Fire Protection District and the Floyd County Sheriff's Office responded to a call help from a woman who was in active labor.

The fire department's team included Battalion Chief Brandon Stott, AEMT Zachary Simms, and EMT-B Trevor Worster from Highlander Fire. Deputy Nick Fulkerson from the sheriff's office also assisted.

In a news release Tuesday, Highland Fire said it would be honoring its members with the department's first-ever "Stork Award" in its 69-year history during a ceremony Friday evening.
