Coronation Street is poised to be shaken by a devastating fatality.

According to reports, a major character faces being killed off in the coming year.

This will broadcast during the programme's special crossover instalment with Emmerdale .

Executive producer Iain MacLeod revealed: "The soap gods demand a sacrifice when you have an event of this kind.

"Sometimes the biggest and best exits are for characters that you care the most about," reports the Daily Star .

"It's going to be shocking. There will be lots of trauma, lots of drama and lots of twists."

The death is so startling that it has triggered rows amongst Corrie's production team.
