GILBERT, Ariz. — Each day, kids walk into the Boys and Girls Club in Gilbert, greeted with smiles, comfort and support from staff.

On this particular day, a group of young kids goes into a classroom, sits down, and is welcomed by a teacher ready to start the day's activity. Today's lesson is about feelings.

"I have a question for everyone," she said. "Do you ever feel emotions swirling around inside of you like a whirlpool?"

Those in the classroom raise their hand. The teacher continues asking questions about different emotions and how to calm them down in certain situations.

"I feel sad, angry, mad, happy," Nia said.

Nia is 7 years old and attends the Boys and Girls Club every week with her older sister. She said she sometimes has big feelings that can be a bit overwhelming.
